Uttarakhand’s government is making efforts to boost sports and adventure tourism in the state. Recently, they have introduced new initiatives for tourists.
Thirty new unexplored peaks and ten new high-altitude trekking routes have been made available to travelers.
New Peaks and Treks for Thrill-seekers
With these new destinations, travelers from various regions are enthusiastic about becoming a part of these adventures. These peaks are situated above 6,000 meters.
Unveiling the New Trekking Routes
The Tourism Department has opened up ten new trekking routes, including Narayan Parvat, Nar Parvat, Lamchir South, Lamchir, Bhaganyu, Pawagarh, Mahalaya Parvat, Yan Book, Ratnagiri, and Nanda Lapak.
Government’s Initiative and Implementation
This decision follows the central government’s order from August 2019, allowing the identification of 137 other Himalayan peaks in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Jammu and Kashmir for travelers.
New Unexplored Peaks for Adventure Enthusiasts
Among the 30 new unexplored peaks are Bhrgu Parvat (6,041 meters), Kali Dhang (6,373 meters), Rishi Kot (6,236 meters), Himsakhalan (6,443 meters),
Manda III (6,510 meters), Manda II (6,529 meters), Garur Parvat (6,504 meters), Devatoli (6,788 meters), and Rishi Pahad (6,992 meters).
Responsible Trekking and Positive Impact
According to media reports, to promote cleanliness and environmental awareness,
mountain climbers will need to deposit ₹10,000 per team, refundable based on the condition they leave the area in.
Enhancing Livelihoods and Sustainability
The new trekking routes will contribute to the livelihoods of people, and they will also convey a positive message across different regions.
The route map and arrangements will be made with the help of local environmental-development committees.
Limited Access for Conservation
Moreover, only twelve teams of ten members each will be allowed to reach the summit. They can attempt this twice a year.
Past Proposals and Conservation Concerns
Previously, there was a proposal to open 51 peaks and treks in Uttarakhand. However, due to national security and ecological concerns, this proposal was rejected.
Therefore, tourists can observe eleven peaks as they assess other peaks.
