Situated in the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand’s Garhwal district, Badrinath Temple is perched at an altitude of 10,200 feet above sea level.

The majestic Neelkanth peak stands proudly in front of the temple. The temple is located about 45 kilometers away from Joshimath, which serves as a base camp.

Best Time to Visit

The ideal time to visit Badrinath is during the month of October. However, the peak season is from May to June, which sees a high influx of visitors.

Due to the possibility of bad weather, people need to be prepared with umbrellas and warm clothing. Cold nights and rainy days are common.

In August or September, a famous fair takes place, attracting many attendees.

How to Reach Badrinath

Reaching Badrinath is relatively convenient compared to other temples of the Char Dham. A common route is to plan a day’s journey from Joshimath.

Accommodation options are available in Badrinath. The nearest railway station is in Haridwar, which is about a 10-hour drive from Joshimath.

The most convenient approach is to hire a car and driver from Haridwar, a service easily available at the station. Charges are incurred for round-trip journeys, including cars.

Night driving isn’t allowed on the challenging mountain roads between Joshimath and Badrinath.

Local shared jeeps and buses are also available from Haridwar and Rishikesh.

Government-operated buses are an economical option and can be found outside Haridwar station. During the peak season, local police usually manage traffic to ensure safety.
