In the city of Ujjain, known for the Mahakaleshwar Temple, there exists a school that is over 5000 years old. It’s where Lord Shri Krishna received his education in 64 different subjects.

A Place of Great Religious Significance

Education during the Mahabharata Era

During the time of the Mahabharata, this place was a significant center of education.

Lord Shri Krishna, along with Balaram and Sudama, received their childhood education at Guru Sandipani’s ashram.

They regularly attended classes here to gain knowledge.

The Ashram’s Location on Mangalnath Road

Maharshi Sandipani’s ashram is situated on Mangalnath Road, an area also known as “Ankapat” due to its association with

Lord Shri Krishna’s practice of washing his slate and chalk here. It’s believed that Lord Krishna used this place for his writing practice.

A Nearly 5000-Year-Old Ashram

This ashram was initially made of grass and leaves but later transformed into a solid structure. According to a priest, the ashram dates back to approximately 5266 years ago.

Lord Shri Krishna’s Studies with Slate and Chalk

In the ashram, you can find a statue depicting young Lord Shri Krishna, Balaram, and Sudama, holding slates and chalk, just like students. When young Krishna came here to study, he was only 11 years old.

Learning 64 Subjects and 16 Arts

It’s said that Lord Shri Krishna gained knowledge of 64 subjects and 16 arts during his time at this ashram.

After defeating his maternal uncle Kansa, Krishna came to the city of Avantika, now known as Ujjain, and spent 64 days here, acquiring knowledge and wisdom
