Railway Rule Passengers Face Fines Despite Having Tickets

Indian Railways has made train travel very convenient for people. They’ve also created several rules to ensure that passengers don’t face any problems.

It’s the responsibility of all passengers to follow these railway rules. But did you know that there’s one rule which, if not followed, can land you in trouble? Even if you have a valid ticket.

Waiting Time on Platforms

If your train is on time, you can arrive at the platform up to two hours before its scheduled departure.

However, this waiting period may vary for trains departing at night and during the day.

So, whenever you plan to travel by train, make sure to adhere to these time limits. It’s essential to stay informed about the specific rules for your train.

Platform Tickets are Mandatory

If you find yourself spending more time than planned at the railway station, you’ll need to purchase a platform ticket.

Having this ticket allows you to stay on the platform throughout the day. The Ticket Examiner (TTE) won’t bother you as long as you have a platform ticket.

However, if you neglect this rule, you might end up facing an unnecessary hassle.

Why This Rule Exists

The primary purpose of this rule is to reduce overcrowding on railway platforms. Many people come to the station simply to pass the time or to see off someone, leading to unnecessary crowds.

By imposing a time limit on platform access, the railway authorities aim to discourage this practice.

It also ensures a more organized and comfortable experience for passengers. For those arriving on night trains, a maximum of six hours is allowed on the platform.

Beyond that, staying on the platform is not permitted. Similarly, if you’re changing trains after a long-distance journey,

you can only stay on the platform for two hours while waiting for your next train. So, make sure to adhere to these railway rules to have a smooth and hassle-free journey.
