Passport Requirement
For most foreign trips, you’ll need a passport. If you don’t have a passport, you can’t travel to other countries.
However, it’s important to note that there are a few exceptions. India allows its citizens to travel to certain countries without a passport.
In these cases, you only need a valid photo ID. Bhutan and Nepal are two such countries.
Traveling to Bhutan
To travel to Bhutan, you can use your Voter ID card. For children, a birth certificate or a school ID card (Aadhar card) is necessary. Bhutan offers this convenience to Indian travelers.
Traveling to Nepal
If you wish to visit Nepal, you can take advantage of air services from major Indian airports to Kathmandu.
According to Nepal’s advisory, Indians only need documents proving their Indian citizenship, such as a Voter ID card or an Aadhar card.
Visa Not Required in Some Countries
Apart from Bhutan and Nepal, there are other countries where you need a passport but don’t require a visa. Globally, there are 58 such travel destinations. These include Maldives,
Mauritius, Thailand, Macau, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Kenya, Myanmar, Qatar, Cambodia, Uganda, Seychelles, Zimbabwe, and Iran, among others.
In these countries, you can travel without obtaining a separate visa.
