Under the Best Tourism Village competition by the Ministry of Tourism, Sarmoli Village near Munsiyari in Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand, has been selected as the best tourism village at the national level.

National Recognition: Sarmoli Village Stands Out

In a competition that saw 795 villages from all states and union territories of India participating, Sarmoli Village’s exceptional efforts in promoting tourism at the grassroots level earned it the title of the Best Tourism Village.

The announcement of this honor is scheduled for September 27, coinciding with World Tourism Day.

Local Happiness and Future Prospects

The villagers of Munsiyari, particularly those from Sarmoli, are delighted with the recognition. They highlight the extensive work done by the locals to enhance tourism facilities for visitors.

District Panchayat member Jagat Martolia emphasized that after the declaration of Sarmoli as the Best Tourism Village, it is crucial to develop tourism activities not only in Sarmoli but throughout the Munsiyari region.

This would make it easier for tourists from all over India and abroad to access this beautiful destination.

Sarmoli Village, with its rich culture and natural beauty, has become a hub for eco-tourism and adventure tourism. Tourists are drawn to the stunning views of Nanda Devi, Rajrambha, Panchachuli, and Nanda Kot peaks.

Home stays, managed mainly by local women, are a popular choice among tourists, contributing significantly to the village’s economy.

Approximately 90% of the village’s population is engaged in tourism-related activities, with an annual income exceeding 5 million rupees.

Sarmoli Village has truly earned its reputation as the best tourism village, showcasing the potential of rural tourism in India.
