In Chhattisgarh’s Kangra Valley National Park, experts from the field of geology, local tribal communities, and park officials have successfully uncovered 15 natural caves.
Among these, five caves were already well-known across the country and beyond,
while the discovery of the other ten has now made this national park the first of its kind, boasting a total of 15 caves in one location.
Unique Beauties Beneath the Earth
Each of these caves holds its own unique charm. The Kangra Valley National Park is a special haven of biodiversity and natural heritage.
Within its dense forests, rare species thrive alongside famous waterfalls. Additionally, the park’s grasslands have become the site of a significant discovery – 10 new caves brought to light by local communities and park authorities.
A Coffee Table Book to Unveil the Splendor
To share the beauty and distinctiveness of these caves, the management of the Kangra Valley National Park has prepared a coffee table book.
This book provides insight into the remarkable features of these caves and aims to promote the national park’s wonders both nationally and internationally.
Preserving Natural Heritage
The newfound caves not only add to the park’s attractions but also contribute to safeguarding its natural heritage. Previously,
the Kangra Valley National Park had only revealed the presence of five caves. Notable among these were the Kotamsar and Kailash Caves,
which have garnered global recognition for their unique formations.
Glimpse into the Caves
Kotamsar Cave, a subterranean wonder, reaches depths of 60 to 120 feet with a length of 4500 feet.
Discovered in the 1950s with the help of local tribes, the cave’s intricate limestone formations are a result of complex chemical reactions involving limestone, carbon dioxide,
and water.
Nature’s Slow Craftsmanship
The caves evolve gradually over time, with their breathtaking formations growing slowly and steadily.
Inside, these caves remain shrouded in darkness, as sunlight struggles to penetrate. This unique characteristic is shared by the Kailash and Dandak Caves.
The recent discovery of 10 additional caves alongside the existing 5 has further enriched the park’s offerings.
A New Dimension for Tourism
Ganveer Dhammashil, the administrator of Kangra Valley National Park, shared that until now, tourists from near and far were only aware of five famous caves within the park.
However, with the unveiling of these 15 caves, they are set to become the main attraction for nature enthusiasts visiting the park.
Each cave possesses its own distinct features, waiting to be explored.
Conservation Efforts
The caves remain untouched by human interference, ensuring the preservation of their natural formations.
To promote awareness and understanding of these caves’ uniqueness, the park management has created a coffee table book,
which was recently inaugurated by the Chief Minister.
Spreading the Wonder
Through this coffee table book, visitors can gain insight into the exceptional qualities of these caves,
while also aiding in the promotion and dissemination of information about the national park.
Notably, Kangra Valley National Park has become the first in the country to house 15 natural caves in one location.
