India has more than 12,000 trains running every day. Passengers usually have to pay a fare to travel on these trains. However, there is one train where you can travel for free.

The Bhangra-Nangal Train: A Unique Journey

This special train is called the Bhangra-Nangal Train, running along the border of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. It is managed by the Bhakra Beas Management Board, operating between Nangal and Bhakra dams.

A Popular Tourist Attraction

People from all around the world visit this famous dam, and they can enjoy a free ride on this train.

According to information available on the Indian Railways website, this train service started in the year 1948.

Connecting the Dams

During the construction of the Bhakra-Nangal dam, there was no transportation available between these two locations.

To address this issue, the decision was made to establish this train route. Since then, this train has been in operation, covering a distance of approximately 13 kilometers through the Shivalik hills to reach its destination.

Today, from its humble beginnings in 1948, this train has become a popular choice for travelers. Initially, there were only a few passengers, but now, more than 800 passengers travel on this train every day.
