Enhancing Travel Experiences: Amrit Bharat Yojana’s Station Redevelopment

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, launched the “Amrit Bharat Station Scheme” through a video conference.

This scheme aims to develop 508 railway stations across the country. The Indian Railways is one of the world’s busiest and largest railway networks,

connecting thousands of towns and cities, playing a significant role in facilitating the travel of millions of people.

Transforming Stations Across the Nation

The government is taking steps to improve passenger and freight transportation services.

It’s working on modernizing technology, facilities, and basic infrastructure to enhance passenger experiences.

As part of this effort, railway stations all over the country are being revamped, aligning with the vision of a “New India.”

What is the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme?

The “Amrit Bharat Station Scheme” was introduced by the Ministry of Railways on December 27, 2022. This scheme envisions the long-term development of stations.

It’s based on adapting plans according to the needs and demands of each station within the network.

Goals of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

The main goal of the scheme is to upgrade facilities beyond the basic necessities, including creating rooftop plazas and city centers within stations.

The scheme also focuses on both introducing new amenities and upgrading existing ones, aiming for a holistic improvement in passenger experiences.

Scope of the Scheme’s Work

Under the “Amrit Bharat Station Scheme” (ABSS), various aspects of station improvements are planned, such as entry and exit points,

circulating areas, waiting halls, toilets, lifts/escalators, cleanliness, free Wi-Fi, and “One Station One Product” stalls.

Additionally, the scheme includes better passenger information systems, executive lounges, business meeting spaces, greenery, and more.

A Nationwide Effort

The “Amrit Bharat Station Scheme” aims to revamp 508 stations across the country. Stations from 27 states and union territories are included in this plan.

States like Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have 55 each, Bihar has 49, Maharashtra has 44, West Bengal has 37,

Madhya Pradesh has 34, Assam has 32, and Punjab has 22 stations under this scheme. Gujarat and Telangana each have 21,

Jharkhand has 20, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu each have 18, Haryana has 15, Karnataka has 13, and many other states also have several stations covered under the scheme.
