Delightful Reopening: ‘Amrit Udyan’ Welcomes Delhiites Once Again

Monsoon Delight near Rashtrapati Bhavan: If you’re in Delhi during the monsoon season, there’s a beautiful place you can enjoy – the Amrit Garden near Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Previously known as Mughal Garden, this garden has been renamed as Amrit Garden.

Although it used to be open only from January 29th to March 31st, now it’s open again for people due to the Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.

The garden’s doors are open for visitors from August 16th to September 17th. Here, you can relish the beauty of colorful flowers.

Special Features of Amrit Garden:

  1. The British Connection: In 1911, the British moved their capital from Kolkata to Delhi. The Vice Regal Lodge, now known as Rashtrapati Bhavan, was constructed by cutting down the hills of Raisina.
  2. Design and Significance: The garden spreads over 15 acres and is referred to as the “soul” of Rashtrapati Bhavan. The design was created by British architect Edwin Lutyens.
  3. Named “Heaven”: Lady Lutyens, Sir Edwin Lutyens’ wife, called this garden “heaven.”
  4. Variety of Roses: There are around 159 varieties of roses in the garden, with names like Mother Teresa, Abraham Lincoln, and Jawaharlal Nehru.
  5. Limited Openings: The garden was usually opened just once a year, but this is the first time it’s being opened twice for the public.

Booking and Entry:

To enter the garden, you can book tickets online through the Rashtrapati Bhavan website visit.

rashtrapatibhavan.gov.in/. You can also get tickets from kiosk machines at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Along with visiting Amrit Garden, tourists can explore the Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum by booking slots online.

Special Opening for Teachers on September 5th:

Note that the garden will remain closed on Monday.

However, on September 5th, on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, teachers will be given special access.

Booking Details: Mobile Number Required

Booking slots will be available every hour. You’ll need a mobile number to book online.

Remember, you can only make one booking with one mobile number.

Those booking online need to do so at least 10 days before their visit.

For instance, if you want to visit on September 6th, you need to book the ticket on August 16th.

Entry Process:

To enter Amrit Garden, use Gate Number 35 near North Avenue.

Entry is allowed only during the 6 time slots from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Those who book tickets online need to show a digital visitor card and a government ID.

It’s important to enter during the chosen slot; entry outside the chosen time isn’t allowed.

Prohibited Items in the Garden:

Amrit Garden is clean and tidy, so no littering is allowed. Visitors are not allowed to bring food and drinks.

Video cameras, cigarettes, and tobacco products are also not permitted. Firearms are strictly prohibited.

However, you can bring mobile phones, electronic keys, water bottles, and baby milk bottles.

Explore Events:

Apart from the garden, you can explore the Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum and even witness the Changing of the Guard ceremony.

Remember to enjoy the beauty of Amrit Garden while being mindful of the rules and guidelines.
