Airport and Indigo to Pay Rs 12 lakh Compensation (See Why?)

A heart-wrenching incident unfolded at Bengaluru’s Kempagowda International Airport, where Chandra Shetty, a 60-year-old passenger, tragically lost his life due to a lack of timely assistance.

The consumer court has now ruled that both the airport and Indigo airline must pay a compensation of Rs 12 lakh to the grieving family.

In November 2021, Chandra Shetty, accompanied by his wife Sumathi Shetty and daughter Dikshita Shetty, arrived at the Kempagowda International Airport for their Indigo flight to Mangaluru.

However, their journey took a distressing turn as Chandra Shetty suddenly began experiencing health complications, leaving him restless and unwell.

Tragic Events Unfold:

As Chandra Shetty’s condition worsened upon reaching the airport, his wife sought immediate assistance from Indigo’s staff.

Tragically, despite their efforts, Chandra Shetty did not receive timely help and succumbed to his condition, leaving the family devastated.

The family holds the airline and airport staff accountable, claiming that the lack of timely support resulted in Chandra Shetty’s untimely demise.

Consumer Court Verdict:

The family’s plea for justice led them to approach the consumer court, seeking accountability from both Indigo airline and Bengaluru airport.

After careful consideration, the court reproached both entities and passed a verdict ordering a compensation of Rs 12 lakh to be awarded to the grieving family.

Expressing dissatisfaction, the court emphasized the responsibility of airlines and airports to ensure the safety and well-being of passengers.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the crucial role that prompt assistance and support play in ensuring passenger safety.

As the family mourns their irreparable loss, the consumer court’s verdict brings some solace by holding the airline and airport accountable for their responsibilities in providing a secure environment for travelers.
