Prayagraj
Prayagraj is known as the king of pilgrimage sites. It was previously called Allahabad. Besides, this city is famous for the confluence of three rivers, known as Triveni Sangam. Many people perform religious rituals here.
According to legends, when Lord Rama was on his 14-year exile, he crossed the flowing Ganges River in Prayagraj.
Chitrakoot
Chitrakoot is a holy place where five villages meet. The names of these villages are Karbi, Sitapur, Kamata, Kohani, and Nayagaon.
Lord Rama spent most of his time here during his exile, about 11 years. It is the place where Lord Rama’s brother Bharat came to take him back to Ayodhya.
Panchavati
Panchavati is located on the banks of the Godavari River near Nasik in Maharashtra. It has five banyan trees, hence the name Panchavati.
In the Ramayana era, Panchavati held great importance. It is the place where Lakshmana cut off Shurpanakha’s nose, and Ravana abducted Sita.
Rameswaram
Rameswaram holds a significant place in the Ramayana. Lord Rama’s army of monkeys and bears built a bridge from Rameswaram to Lanka to reach Sita.
It is said that after returning from Lanka, Mata Sita created a Shiva Linga here. Even today, the Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram is well-known among people.
Janakpur
Goddess Sita was born in Janakpur. This is also the place where Lord Rama and Sita got married.
The marriage pavilion and the wedding site are still preserved, and people can visit them. Locals believe that by bringing Sindoor (vermilion) from here during weddings, the married life becomes long and prosperous.
Kishkindha
In the Ramayana, this place is associated with Bali and Sugriva. Currently, it is located near Hampi in Karnataka.
UNESCO has recognized this place as a World Heritage Site. According to mythology, after Lord Rama killed Bali and crowned Sugriva, the coronation ceremony took place in this city.
