5 Years of ‘Statue of Unity’ Essential Tips for Your Visit!

Every year on October 31st, India celebrates Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birthday. He united over 550 princely states into the Indian Union.

This day is now known as National Unity Day, honoring his vision. In 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government initiated this celebration, paying tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The Tallest Statue in the World

Before becoming Prime Minister, Narendra Modi dreamt of creating India’s largest statue in honor of Sardar Patel. In 2013, while he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he laid the foundation stone.

After becoming Prime Minister in 2018, he inaugurated the Statue of Unity. This statue, located between the Vindhyachal and Satpura mountain ranges near the Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat, stands at a height of 182 meters. This dream project, costing approximately 2989 crores, has attracted millions of tourists.

Statue of Unity: A Major Tourist Attraction

The Statue of Unity has become a premier tourist destination in India. Not just Indians, but people from abroad also visit Gujarat to witness this marvel.

Located approximately 3.5 km downstream from the famous Sardar Sarovar Dam, between the Vindhya and Satpura mountain ranges,

this site attracted 4.53 lakh tourists in 2018, 27.45 lakh in 2019, 12.81 lakh in 2020, 34.29 lakh in 2021, 41.32 lakh in 2022, and 31.92 lakh in 2023.

How to Reach the Statue of Unity

To visit the Statue of Unity, travelers need to reach Vadodara, the nearest city. It can be easily accessed by air, road, or rail.

From Vadodara, travelers can further reach Kevadia (now Ekta Nagar). From Ekta Nagar, a 3.5 km long road has been built to reach the Sadhu Bet Island,

where the Statue of Unity stands tall. Additionally, a 320-meter-long bridge has been constructed from the main road to the statue.
