Legend has it that a shepherd named Kudarha discovered this sacred site. His cow used to spontaneously offer her milk to a spot under a tree, intriguing him.

Upon digging the area, he found the idol. Although the story doesn’t conclude, Kudarha erected a shrine, making this place sacred. The nearby ponds are believed to have never dried up, adding to the mystique of the site.

Located between Sagar and Kanpur in Ghatampur, Uttar Pradesh, the Kushmanda Temple stands as a testament to devotion.

Since 1988, an unbroken flame has illuminated the temple. The present temple, built in 1890 by Chandi Deen Bhurji,

houses the idol of Goddess Kushmanda lying in a reclining position, and devotees consider the water dripping from the idol as sacred, believed to have healing properties for various ailments.
