After growing weary of Shimla and Mussoorie, people have started including the northeastern states in their travel plans.
These states, such as Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Mizoram, offer attractions like the Kamakhya Temple, Shillong, Kaziranga Park, Guwahati, Aizawl, and Gangtok, which are highly favored by tourists.
Domestic Tourism on the Rise: Northeast Gains Popularity
According to major tour travel organizations, domestic tourism has witnessed a significant increase of up to 20 percent this year.
Compared to the previous year, 15 percent more people have chosen to explore the Northeast region.
Exploring Neighboring Countries: Budget-Friendly Options
In the past, people preferred traveling to European countries, Britain, and Canada.
However, these destinations come with hefty expenses and visa requirements.
Consequently, individuals are now opting to visit India’s neighboring countries, such as Mauritius, Bangkok, Bali, Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, which offer more budget-friendly options.

Rajeev Mehra, President of the Indian Association of Tour Operators, has stated that the tourism industry faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, domestic tourism has made a remarkable recovery, with people now choosing to explore diverse destinations, which is a positive development.
