This miraculous Ganesh temple is in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. The temple is also known as the Kanipakam Temple, and it is sometimes referred to as the temple of the Water God.
It is believed that the idol of Lord Ganpati here is gradually increasing in size. Devotees from all over the country visit this temple for darshan (viewing) and puja (worship) of Lord Ganesh.
The Temple’s Ancient History
This Ganesh temple is quite old and is situated amidst the Bahuda River. The water in this temple is considered sacred, and it is believed to have healing properties for various illnesses.
The construction of this temple dates back to the 11th century when it was initially built by King Kulottunga Chola I. Later, during the year 1336, the temple was expanded by the rulers of the Vijayanagara dynasty.
The Brahmotsav festival begins at this temple during Ganesh Chaturthi, lasting for 20 days. During this time, a grand chariot procession is held.
According to local legend, there were three brothers who lived here in the past, one was blind, another was mute, and the third was deaf.
They were digging a well for their farming when they uncovered a stone. As they removed the stone, a stream of blood started flowing, filling the well.
It is said that this is when they discovered the self-manifested idol of Lord Ganesh, which miraculously cured the brothers.
Since then, the temple was constructed. The temple is conveniently located just 72 kilometers away from Tirupati bus station.
