The Indian Railways is working rapidly to expand and develop infrastructure, keeping in mind the new vision of a better India, along with passenger comforts.

Similar changes are underway in the Northeastern Railways, including the construction of new lines and doubling of tracks.

As part of this effort, the approval has been granted for a new rail line in the Purvottar Railway, connecting Anand Nagar to Ghughli via Maharajganj.

This new rail line, spanning 52.7 kilometers with a sanctioned cost of 958.27 crore rupees, will pass through the Ghughli Railway Station located near Gorakhpur-Valmiki Nagar.

Benefits to Travelers in the Region

This new rail line’s construction is expected to foster development in the Terai region of the Himalayas, particularly in Maharajganj District.

It will also provide a boost to small-scale agricultural industries due to the abundance of agricultural resources .

The rail line will enhance connectivity to Maharajganj, which serves as the district headquarters.

Presently, Maharajganj, located near the Nepal border, lacks direct rail connectivity. With the completion of this line, alternative routes will be available for trains coming from Northern India,

benefiting the northeastern states through Valmiki Nagar and Raxaul, and reducing traffic pressure on Gorakhpur Junction Station.

Electrified Line for Broader Impact

It’s noteworthy that this new rail line will be electrified, which will not only benefit the local region but also extend its advantages to neighboring Nepal.

The project entails the construction of 9 major and 14 minor bridges. The construction will require 191.059 hectares of land, and the land acquisition process will commence soon.

The line will consist of 7 stations, including Anand Nagar, Maharajganj, and Ghughli crossing stations, as well as 4 halt stations.

Enhanced Connectivity and Convenience

Currently, the distance between Gonda and Paniyahwa via Anand Nagar, Gorakhpur, Gorakhpur Cantt, and Ghughli is 307 kilometers.

With the completion of this new rail line, the distance will be reduced to 265 kilometers. This change will significantly reduce travel time by passing Gorakhpur.

Travel Made Easier

Pankaj Kumar Singh, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Purvottar Railways, mentioned that the necessary funds for this new rail line have been approved.

This development will provide substantial benefits to the rail passengers of the Gorakhpur region and improve their travel convenience.

Additionally, the district headquarters of Maharajganj will also experience significant advantages from this project.
