In Uttar Pradesh, traveling is about to become much easier as the state is gearing up to complete construction on several new National Highways (NH) this year.

These new NHs are over 2600 kilometers long in total, and 60 NH projects have been allocated to the Public Works Department for the current fiscal year, with work already underway on 24 of them.

Speedy Land Acquisition Process

In addition to these 60 projects, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is working on six new projects.

According to Parvez Ahmad Khan, the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, out of the 60 NH projects planned for 2023-24,

work has commenced on 24, agreements have been made for 13, and tenders are ongoing for 15. Notably, eight projects have already invited bids for land acquisition, and progress is rapidly underway.

Upcoming NH Developments

Some of the significant NH projects under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in Uttar Pradesh include:

  • Machhli Shahar to Varanasi
  • Mirzapur to Jaunpur
  • Balarampur, Raebareli, and Madiyahoon
  • Amethi and Pratapgarh Bypass
  • Munshi Pulia in the state capital Lucknow
  • Khurramnagar Elevated Flyover
  • Bareilly-Bisalpur and many other new projects

These projects are being carried out under the supervision of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India.

Investment in Road Development

The Public Works Department has allocated a total of 29,099 crore rupees for these projects. This year’s projects are distributed across various NH circles in Uttar Pradesh:

  • 19 in Prayagraj Circle
  • 6 in Bareilly Circle
  • 7 in Kanpur Circle
  • 24 in Lucknow Circle
  • 4 National Highway projects in Gorakhpur Circle

Expanding Uttar Pradesh’s Highway Network

In 2017, Uttar Pradesh had a total National Highway length of 8364 kilometers. By 2023, with the addition of these new NHs, the total length has increased to 11,590 kilometers.

With 60 more projects in the pipeline, Uttar Pradesh’s highway network is set to expand even further, providing improved connectivity and ease of travel for its residents and visitors alike.
