Meet India’s Tiniest Highway

India’s smallest national highway is NH548, and it’s as short as NH118.

Due to its extremely short length, it holds the distinction of being India’s smallest national highway.

How Short is the Tiny Highway?

This tiny highway in India is just 5 kilometers long and is located in the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Its northern end is in Kalamboli, and its southern tip connects to the Sion-Panvel Expressway near New Mumbai.

On the other hand, National Highway 118 is situated in Jharkhand and connects Asanboni to Jamshedpur.

Before NH548, There Was Another Tiny Highway

Before NH548, there was another small highway known as Highway 47A. This highway is located in the Kochi district of Kerala, India.

It connects Koodanur to Willingdon Island, covering a distance of just four miles. Today, it’s also known as 966B.

Total Number of National Highways in India

India boasts more than 500 national highways that connect various states. As of 2023, according to an updated list,

there are 599 national highways in India that link one state to another. Every day, millions of travelers embark on journeys from one place to another using these highways.
