Every year, Shri Krishna Janmashtami is observed on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada.

Festive Preparations in Mathura-Vrindavan
During Janmashtami in Mathura-Vrindavan, all temples are specially adorned, and various events are organized. This year, on September 7th, 2023, the festival will be celebrated in Mathura-Vrindavan.
A special costume has been prepared for Banke Bihari, characterized by its golden and saffron hues, which will be worn by the deity while granting darshan to devotees.
Additionally, the theme of the moon and Chandrayaan-3 has been incorporated into the celebrations.
Traditional Attire and Special Silver Bath
In Vrindavan, for Shri Krishna Janmashtami, Banke Bihari will be donning a special costume made by local artisans.
This attire, made from silk fabric, is being prepared in collaboration with a devotee from Agra.
The costume, called “Prajnan-Prabhas,” is expected to cost around 1.5 lakh rupees.
Moreover, a new silver bathing vessel has been created for Thakur Banke Bihari, weighing approximately 11 kilograms, to perform the grand abhishek ceremony.
Unique Mangala Aarti at Banke Bihari Temple
In Mathura, devotees from all over the world come to witness the celebration of Lord Krishna’s birth at His birthplace.
The live broadcast of this festival is shown on television. However, in Vrindavan’s Banke Bihari Temple, devotees often struggle to find a place on Janmashtami due to the Mangala Aarti, which happens only once a year on this auspicious day.
The Mangala Aarti takes place at 1:55 AM, marking a unique and eagerly anticipated event for Krishna’s devotees.
The timing may vary depending on planetary and celestial observations, but it remains a significant highlight for devotees from around the globe.
