Nainital, a well-known town in Uttarakhand, India, is famous for more than just its scenic beauty.

It’s home to a unique birdhouse that stands out not only in India but in the whole of Asia.

In addition to its other attractions, Nainital boasts a birdhouse that is renowned for its high altitude and the diverse species of animals it houses. Let’s explore this extraordinary birdhouse.

Establishment in 1984

This remarkable birdhouse, spread across 11 acres, was established in the year 1984. It was opened to the public and tourists in 1995.

Currently, it houses a total of 200 animals and birds from various parts of India and abroad.

Diverse Animal and Bird Species

The birdhouse is home to a variety of animal and bird species, including leopards, Bengal tigers, Tibetan wolves, Himalayan black bears, monals, silver pheasants, and markhors.

It’s worth mentioning that this place is named after Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and India’s fourth Home Minister.

Scenic Surroundings

Apart from the diverse wildlife, the Nainital Birdhouse is surrounded by approximately 11 acres of beautiful landscapes.

Throughout the area, you can find paintings with a Kumaoni style design. After exploring the premises, you can also relax in the picturesque park.

Shuttle Service to the Birdhouse

The Nainital Birdhouse is located in Tallital, and you can easily reach it via a shuttle service available on Mall Road.

Alternatively, you can access it by foot or by two-wheelers. The birdhouse is open to tourists every day from 10 AM to 4:30 PM, except for Thursdays.

Admission Fees

To enter the birdhouse, there is an admission fee of 100 rupees per person.

Children below 12 years of age and senior citizens can visit for free, making it an accessible destination for families and elderly visitors.
