Previously, tourists had to obtain an inner-line permit to reach this glacier. However, this restriction has been lifted, allowing travelers to explore this popular attraction hassle-free.

The Magnificent Milam Glacier: A Prime Tourist Attraction in Kumaon

Milam Glacier is the largest glacier in Kumaon, covering a vast area of 37 square kilometers.

Situated at an altitude of 4268 meters, this glacier has captivated the dreams of avid trekkers.

The base camp of this 16-kilometer-long glacier is located in Munsiyari, attracting tourists through dense forests, mountains, and cascading waterfalls.

Charming Milam Village: Gateway to the Glacier Adventure

Milam Village, located approximately 3 kilometers away from the glacier, serves as the starting point for the trek.

Nestled in the Pithoragarh district, this village is a paradise for trekkers. In ancient times, Milam Village was the most populous village in the region, but now it has a sparse population.

Tourists embark on their journey to the glacier from Munsiyari, a hill station nestled in the lap of nature, offering opportunities for trekking and camping.

A Difficult Yet Enthralling Trekking Experience

The route to Milam Glacier is challenging, passing through rugged terrains, but the journey offers an exhilarating experience for tourists.

The glacier’s awe-inspiring beauty attracts not only local travelers but also a significant number of international tourists.

The name “Milam” is derived from a village located in the vicinity, adding a touch of local charm to this natural wonder.
