October is just around the corner, and if you’re thinking of traveling this month, why not plan a trip to Odisha? While tourists often flock to Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, Odisha also offers incredible possibilities for travelers.

This state is nothing less than a paradise with its mesmerizing coastal destinations, temples, and rich culture and cuisine.

Jagannath Puri Temple and Konark Sun Temple are among the most popular tourist destinations in Odisha. In this guide, we’ll introduce you to five places you can explore in Odisha.

Konark Sun Temple – A Marvel of Ancient Architecture

The famous Konark Sun Temple in Odisha is a magnificent structure dating back 772 years. Made of blue stone and granite, it attracts travelers from around the world.

The temple’s design is such that the first rays of the sun fall on the temple’s entrance door. Let’s delve into the temple’s myths and mysteries.

Located in Puri, Odisha, the Konark Sun Temple is dedicated to Lord Surya (the Sun God). It was constructed in 1250 AD during the reign of King Narasimhadeva I of the Ganga dynasty.

It is said that King Narasimhadeva dedicated the entire revenue of his kingdom for 12 years to build this temple.

The temple is designed in the shape of a chariot with 12 pairs of wheels, and each wheel has a diameter of approximately 3 meters.

These wheels are also known as “Dhup Dhari,” as they serve the purpose of telling time. The temple is built in the Kalinga style of architecture.

Bhuvaneshwar and Puri – The Temple Cities

Bhubaneswar is the capital city of Odisha, often referred to as the “City of Temples.” It’s a city rich in history and culture,

with attractions like Dhauli Hills, Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves, Ratnagiri Buddhist excavation, Bindu Sarovar, and Nandankanan Zoological Park.

Odisha offers plenty of places to explore for tourists. Similarly, in the city of Puri, you can immerse yourself in its beauty and spirituality.

It’s a picturesque city with several temples. Tourists can visit the Puri Beach Festival, Jagannath Puri Temple, Chilika Lake, Bird Sanctuary, and Gundicha Temple.

Jagannath Puri and Cuttack – Exploring More of Odisha

Tourists can also explore Jagannath Puri and Cuttack in Odisha. The Jagannath Temple is globally renowned.

According to mythology, when Lord Vishnu visited all four pilgrimage sites, he first arrived at Badrinath, took a bath, then changed his clothes in Gujarat, had lunch in Puri, and finally, in Rameswaram, he rested.

Tourists can also explore Cuttack, known as the “Silver City” of Odisha. Cuttack is one of the oldest cities in Odisha, offering glimpses of ancient artifacts, monuments, and temples.
