Officials at the Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal have issued a warning to visitors and pilgrims against taking photographs and shooting videos inside the main temple premises.
Violators could face fines of up to 2,000 rupees or legal action under cybercrime laws.
The Pashupatinath Temple, located in Kathmandu, is a globally renowned Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Pashupati (Lord Shiva).
Significance of Pashupatinath Temple
This temple sits on the banks of the Bagmati River and attracts thousands of devotees and tourists from India and around the world every day.
The Pashupatinath Temple Development Trust (PDT) is responsible for overseeing matters related to the temple, and they recently issued a warning ahead of the Hindu festival Teej, which is set to begin this year on Sunday.
Photography and Videography Ban
The PDT spokesperson, Revati Raman Adhikari, emphasized that taking photographs and videos inside the main temple premises has been prohibited for some time.
He noted that particularly during Teej, young people enter the temple premises despite security arrangements, capturing videos and images and sharing them on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
This practice is against the rules and regulations of the temple.
Penalties for Violations
Adhikari further mentioned that individuals found taking videos or photos inside the temple premises could face fines ranging from 500 to 2,000 rupees.
Teej is an important Hindu festival celebrated by thousands of women from all over Nepal,
who gather at the Pashupatinath Temple to worship Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati,
praying for the well-being, happiness, and prosperity of their families.
