However, there is a unique place in India where train lights mysteriously go out as trains pass through. Let’s explore the reasons behind this phenomenon.

Train Lights Flicker Off Automatically

In a particular region near Tambaram Railway Station in Tamil Nadu, local trains experience a peculiar occurrence: their lights automatically go out as they pass through.

Interestingly, this issue doesn’t affect express and superfast trains; their lights remain on throughout the journey. So, why does this happen?

Understanding the Natural Section

This phenomenon occurs in an area known as a “natural section” in railway terminology. In this area, the overhead equipment lacks electricity, causing a temporary loss of train lights.

However, it’s essential to note that this doesn’t impact express and superfast trains. But local trains are affected because their electricity supply comes directly from the driver’s cabin.

Local Trains and Their Power Supply

Local trains are powered differently from express and superfast trains. In local trains, electricity is supplied directly from the driver’s cabin, where a power system connects to the overhead equipment.

When the train enters an area with no electricity in the overhead equipment, such as the “natural section” near Tambaram, the train’s lights flicker off temporarily.

In contrast, express and superfast trains have separate power supply arrangements for engines and compartments, allowing them to maintain power even in these areas.

In summary, while train journeys are generally comfortable and well-lit, the unique natural section near Tambaram Railway Station creates a temporary interruption in local train lighting.

However, this does not impact the overall safety or operation of the trains, ensuring passengers continue to enjoy their train travel experience.
